UPES offers graduate, post graduate and doctoral programs to students across its various campuses, in the high growth sectors of Oil & Gas, Power, Aviation, Shipping, Automobile, Infrastructure and Logistics & Supply Chain.
Recognizing the needs of professionals, the university conducts undergraduate engineering courses (B Tech) in various branches of engineering, as well as BBA (Oil & Gas Marketing), BBA (Aviation Operations), integrated courses (BA LLB; BBA LLB and B Tech with LLB), postgraduate M Tech courses in various branches of engineering, post graduate LLM course, a part-time program in Executive MBA (Oil & Gas). The university also offers full time courses - MBA (Oil & Gas Management), MBA (Energy Trading), MBA (Power Management), MBA (Aviation Management), MBA (Port & Shipping Management), MBA (Infrastructure Management), MBA (Logistics & Supply Chain Management), MBA (Logistics & Supply Chain Management), MBA (International Business). In addition to this, the university also conducts part time PhD programme through its Center for Continuing Education.

Facilities
UPES has equipped all the classrooms with ceiling mounted LCD/DLP projectors, computers and PA system with wireless microphones. Limited in-house hostel facility on first-come basis for boys at Dehradun and for boys and girls at Rajahmundry campuses is provided by the University.
Extra-curricular activities are also promoted among the students and facilities like playgrounds and playrooms, indoor and outdoor games, gymnasium and volley ball court are also available. Students are also encouraged to engage in social and cultural activities.
The University houses a well equipped library that contains volumes of publications including books, standards, reports, proceeding and national and international journals in the field of petroleum exploration, chemical, computer, electrical, Electronics and mechanical engineering, information technology and management.
History
The University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES) was established in the year 2003 as a statutory university through an act the State Legislature of Uttarakhand.
University of Petroleum & Energy Studies or UPES is located in Dehradun. It is India's first energy and Asia's first energy and core sector University. UPES was established under the banner of Hydrocarbons Education & Research Society (HERS), a non profit organisation registered under the Societies Act. University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES) has been awarded with ISO 9001:2000 certification.
