Admissions for Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)/Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) under Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme for the academic year 2012-13 to National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)

Admissions under DASA scheme 2012-13

  • In the current global scenario India is emerging as a knowledge super power with a large pool of technically qualified professionals
  • Traditionally, the Indian education system has been known for quality of education, coupled with low cost of education delivery and living, making it an attractive destination for international students to come and study in India
  • Students contemplating to study in India can be assured of experiences rich in traditions, heritage and exposure to diverse culture
  • This would also entail being part of the transition to a modern open knowledge economy, making new friends from around the world and most importantly receiving internationally recognized qualifications
  • Indian educational system offers world class education through wide range of general and specialized courses relevant to the needs of the world
  • The admission of Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin/Non-Resident Indians to undergraduate programs in Centrally Funded Institutions (CFIs) is being offered under DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) scheme for undergraduate programme from the academic session 2001-02 onwards
  • The post graduate programme in Engineering and MBA Programme was launched from the academic year 2011-2012
  • At present more than 15 institutes are participating in the scheme offering more than 300 seats
  • The admission process is online, and requires a candidate to fill an online application form and make payment of fee electronically (swift transfer/e-transfer/demand draft)
  • A signed print copy of the online application form along with necessary documentary evidences are also required to be submitted to NITK, Surathkal

Academic Eligibility

  • Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination, i.e. Four/Five year undergraduate programme in Engineering or equivalent for M.Tech and any UG degree for MBA programme from any system of education as recognized by the Association of Indian Universities; and
  • Must have secured a minimum of at least 60% aggregate marks or 6.75 CGPA on a 10 point scale or equivalent grades in the qualifying examination; and
  • Must have a minimum total of 300 GRE test score for eligibility in case of those seeking admission for M.Tech and minimum of 480 GMAT test score in case of those seeking admission for MBA
  • Valid GRE/GMAT scores of earlier years should be above 60% of maximum score for eligibility

Fee structure: Registration fee and first year tuition fee an amount of US$ 4250 (US Dollar four thousand two hundred and fifty only) towards non-refundable registration fee of US$ 250 (US Dollar two hundred fifty only) and first year tuition fee of US$ 4,000 (US Dollar four thousand only) is required to be paid along with the application form

  • Charges for demand draft or electronic-payment, if any, should be borne by the candidates
  • Foreign Nationals from SAARC countries seeking admission through this channel shall be allowed 50% fee waiver (tuition fee only) provided they have studied/are studying in SAARC countries only
  • They are required to submit an amount of US$ 2250 along with the application form
  • Requisite registration fee and first year tuition fee can be paid either through bank transfer or demand draft or electronic-payment

Submission of application

  • The submission of application is a two stage process, both of which are essential
  • On-line application (http://www.dasanit.org) and submission of signed print copy of the application along with required documents
  • Submission of copies of GRE/GMAT score
  • Seat allotment procedure: Seat allotment will be solely based on submitted GRE/GMAT test scores and the choices given by the candidate, in the order of their merit and priority taken together
